When discussing the most powerful creatures in Lineage 2, players usually think of the legendary dragons born from Shilen. However, hidden within the game's lore is another terrifying being whose power rivals that of the dragons themselves—a demon so dangerous that even the gods feared him.

The Great War Between Gods and Shilen

According to Lineage 2 lore, six mighty dragons created by Shilen fought against the gods during an ancient war. Although these dragons possessed incredible power, the gods ultimately prevailed. The surviving forces of Shilen retreated to the mortal world, where adventurers would eventually encounter many of them.

While players are familiar with dragons such as Antharas, Valakas, Lindvior, and Fafurion, there are other legendary creatures from that era whose stories remain largely unknown. Among them is Kadesh, a monstrous serpent demon whose existence threatened both mortals and gods alike.

The Mystery Begins

The story of Kadesh is revealed through a profession quest involving Hamil, one of the kingdom's most celebrated archers. Hamil belongs to an elite group of only 33 master archers, a title dating back to the legendary archer Atlanta, who famously struck Lindvior in the eye during an attack on Aden.

While stationed in Floran on behalf of the Hunters Guild, Hamil becomes concerned about strange events occurring in the southern regions of the kingdom. A hunter named Brankel, sent to investigate, has disappeared without a trace.

The player is tasked with finding Brankel and uncovering the truth behind the mysterious disturbances.

The Children of Shilen and Beleth's Artifact

The investigation leads to the Wasteland, where clues left behind by Brankel reveal a disturbing discovery. A group posing as researchers had arrived to excavate ancient ruins from the Elmoreden era. In reality, they were members of the cult known as the Children of Shilen.

Their objective was to locate powerful relics connected to Beleth, whose ancient citadel once stood in the area. During their search, they uncovered a mysterious artifact known as the Egg of the Black Snake.

The cult delivered the egg to the Brek Orcs, promising that it would revive their long-dead totem spirit, the Coiled Serpent. Desperate to restore their lost protector, the orcs performed a ritual using the artifact.

The ritual succeeded—but not in the way they expected.

The Return of Kadesh

Instead of reviving the Brek Orcs' totem spirit, the ritual awakened Kadesh, a serpent demon born directly from Shilen and a veteran of the ancient war against the gods.

Kadesh possessed a terrifying ability: he constantly consumed living creatures and grew stronger and larger with every meal. His endless hunger made him one of the most dangerous entities ever to exist.

As his power continued to increase without limit, even the gods feared what he could become.

The Only Weapon Capable of Killing Him

Because Kadesh was not a natural creature of the mortal world, ordinary weapons were useless against him. To counter this threat, the gods taught the elves how to forge a sacred weapon known as the Crescent Moon Bow.

This divine bow was created for a single purpose—to destroy Kadesh.

In ancient times, Kadesh ravaged the southern lands of Oren, leaving destruction, poison, and bloodshed in his wake. Even centuries later, the Leto Lizardmen continued to worship him as a God of War, preserving his totems and sacred relics.

Twenty years before the events of the quest, the archers Hamil and Cyriel managed to stop an earlier attempt to resurrect Kadesh using the Crescent Moon Bow. The battle succeeded, but the bow lost its power afterward and was placed in the Ivory Tower for safekeeping.

The weapon is believed to be one of the elves' most sacred relics, alongside the legendary Spear of Tilin.

Preventing a Catastrophe

With the help of Master Gauen, the player restores the Crescent Moon Bow and sets out to confront Kadesh once more.

The demon travels to the Valley of the Lizardmen, intending to feed on them and increase his strength. Understanding that every passing moment allows Kadesh to grow more powerful, the player races to stop him before he reaches his full potential.

By defeating the lizardmen that Kadesh intended to consume, the player forces the demon to reveal himself. Armed with the restored Crescent Moon Bow, the player confronts and destroys Kadesh before he can become an unstoppable force.

In doing so, a potential catastrophe that could have threatened the entire world is prevented.

Why Kadesh Is One of Lineage 2's Most Interesting Bosses

Kadesh represents a unique aspect of Lineage 2 storytelling. Although he appears as a relatively low-level enemy during the quest, the lore describes him as a creature feared even by the gods themselves.

The explanation lies in the timing of the encounter. Players do not face Kadesh at the height of his power. Instead, they destroy him before he has the opportunity to grow into the world-ending monster described in ancient legends.

This clever narrative detail helps explain why some seemingly ordinary encounters in Lineage 2 are connected to beings of immense mythological significance, making Kadesh one of the most fascinating and overlooked figures in the game's lore.
