With renewed interest in classic Lineage 2 thanks to projects recreating the early chronicles, many players have been revisiting the unique gameplay of C1. Unlike later updates, support classes in C1 faced long leveling journeys, limited resources, and a very different set of mechanics. This guide looks at four iconic support-oriented classes of the era: Sword Singer (SWS), Blade Dancer (BD), Elven Elder (EE), and Bishop.

The Reality of Support Classes in C1

C1 servers operated with x1 rates, making progression significantly slower than modern versions of the game. Reaching the second profession could take weeks or even months. Before becoming valuable support characters, most players spent a long period leveling with limited party demand and modest solo efficiency.

The absence of Vampiric Rage, lower mana regeneration, limited buff slots, and fewer class skills created a much harsher environment where every class had to earn its place.

Sword Singer (SWS)

The Sword Singer was a hybrid between tank and support. Thanks to high movement speed and useful utility skills, it could effectively replace tanks when pulling trains of monsters for party farming.

Strengths

  • High movement speed and excellent mobility.

  • Powerful Slow effect that could reduce enemy movement speed dramatically.

  • Self-healing capabilities.

  • Ability to remove poison and bleeding effects.

  • Strong performance against undead due to Holy Weapon-related bonuses.

  • Exceptional party utility through songs.

Key Songs

Song of Wind (Level 46)
One of the most impactful songs in C1, increasing movement speed and improving farming efficiency for melee groups while providing a major advantage in PvP.

Song of Hunter (Level 49)
The signature Sword Singer skill. In C1, this song doubled the current critical rate rather than increasing the base value. Combined with Focus buffs, it made archers and daggers extremely powerful and turned SWS into a mandatory class for physical parties.

Song of Earth (Level 55)
Provided additional defense, though weaker than later versions of the game.

Song of Water (Level 58)
A major difference from later chronicles. Instead of adding a small evasion bonus, it granted a massive increase to dodge, making evasion-based builds highly effective.

Weaknesses

  • Low damage output.

  • Few offensive skills.

  • Slow and difficult leveling process.

  • Limited usefulness before higher-level songs become available.

Overall

Sword Singer was one of the most valuable support classes in physical parties. However, players had to endure a difficult journey before reaching the levels where their most important songs became available.

Blade Dancer (BD)

The Blade Dancer offered a more aggressive approach to support gameplay. While it shared the same long leveling path as SWS, it gained useful offensive abilities much earlier.

Strengths

  • Strong debuffs.

  • Good attack power.

  • Effective solo leveling.

  • Valuable dances available immediately after the second profession.

Key Dances

Dance of Fire (Level 40)
One of the strongest dances in C1, increasing critical damage by 50%. This made Blade Dancers highly desirable in physical parties from the moment they reached second profession.

Dance of Light (Level 43)
Increased damage against undead and light-vulnerable monsters, making it useful in several farming locations.

Dance of Mystic (Level 49)
Provided magical attack bonuses and opened the door to mage party support.

Dance of Concentration (Level 52)
A critical PvP skill that increased casting speed and resistance to interruptions.

Dance of Warrior (Level 55)
Boosted physical attack power.

Dance of Fury (Level 58)
Increased attack speed and became a core component of physical party setups.

Weaknesses

  • Low HP pool.

  • Vulnerability to stuns.

  • Constant demand to manage both damage and support responsibilities.

Overall

Blade Dancer was arguably more versatile than Sword Singer in small groups thanks to its strong debuffs and offensive utility. It became useful earlier and remained valuable throughout all stages of the game.

Elven Elder (EE)

Many players underestimated Elven Elder in C1 because it lacked several buffs that became essential in later chronicles. However, the unique mechanics of C1 gave EE a number of hidden strengths.

Strengths

  • Excellent mana restoration.

  • High casting speed.

  • Strong support tools for physical classes.

  • Powerful utility in PvP.

Important Buffs

Holy Weapon
Increased damage against undead by 20%, making it one of the most useful PvE buffs in a chronicle filled with undead monsters.

Agility
Granted significantly more evasion than in later versions, making it extremely valuable for dagger classes.

Bless Shield
Worked exceptionally well under C1 shield mechanics, dramatically improving survivability against archers.

Concentration
Reduced spell interruption and became increasingly important because of slower casting speeds in early Lineage 2.

Shock Resistance
One of EE's most unique advantages, helping warriors survive the stun-heavy PvP environment.

PvP Utility

EE brought several valuable tools to high-level PvP:

  • Resurrection.

  • Party Recall.

  • Sleep.

  • Chains of Wind.

  • Fast healing due to high casting speed.

  • Reliable mana support.

Weaknesses

  • Less attractive for mage parties compared to Shillien Elder.

  • Limited demand in random groups.

  • Difficult party search before higher levels.

Overall

Elven Elder was not the easiest support class to level, but it became an exceptional PvP support and a strong partner for physical classes. Players willing to endure the early struggles were rewarded with one of the most versatile support characters in the game.

Bishop

Bishop was the undisputed king of healing in C1. No other class could match its raw healing power. However, being the best healer did not automatically make leveling easy.

Early Game Challenges

The biggest enemy of every Bishop was mana management.

  • Mana regeneration was extremely low.

  • Healing spells consumed large amounts of MP.

  • Equipment provided fewer bonuses than in later chronicles.

  • Most leveling groups preferred cheaper alternatives.

As a result, Bishops often struggled to find parties before reaching higher levels.

Useful Early Buffs

Before second profession, Bishops offered:

  • Physical attack buffs.

  • Physical defense buffs.

  • Running speed buffs.

  • Focus.

  • Holy Weapon.

These abilities allowed them to contribute as support characters even before becoming full healers.

Important Skills

Greater Heal (Level 40)
Provided stronger healing but came with substantial mana costs.

Mass Resurrection
Primarily useful for clan activities and large-scale PvP.

Restore Life
Highly effective when paired with high-HP classes such as Warlords, Dwarves, and Orcs.

Purify
Situational but useful against paralysis effects.

Vitalize
Removed poison and bleeding while restoring HP, becoming increasingly valuable at higher levels.

Solo Play

Many Bishops spent large portions of their leveling experience hunting undead monsters. Skills specifically designed to fight undead allowed them to level independently when parties were unavailable.

High-Level PvP

Everything changed at higher levels.

Bishops became some of the most sought-after characters in the game because they offered:

  • The strongest heals.

  • Resurrection.

  • Group support.

  • Exceptional survivability during sieges and clan warfare.

Overall

Bishop was one of the hardest support classes to level but one of the most rewarding in endgame content. It was a class built for dedicated players, organized groups, and long-term clan participation.

Final Thoughts

The support experience in Lineage 2 C1 was very different from later chronicles. Sword Singers and Blade Dancers eventually became indispensable party members, while Elven Elders and Bishops provided crucial healing and utility despite difficult leveling paths.

Success with these classes required patience, commitment, and a willingness to endure the slow progression of early Lineage 2. Those who persevered, however, became some of the most valuable players on any server and played a key role in PvP, sieges, raid encounters, and clan life.
