After the defeat and exile of Shilen, the world of Lineage 2 entered a period of chaos and transformation. The surviving dragons retreated to distant corners of the continent, civilizations struggled to survive a devastating flood, and ancient races faced tragedies that would shape their future for centuries.

The Aftermath of Shilen’s Defeat

Shilen’s army was destroyed, and the surviving monsters scattered across the world in search of safety.

The Wind Dragon Lindvior vanished into unknown lands, while Aurakiria disappeared without a trace. The exhausted Fire Dragon Valakas sought refuge deep within a massive cave in the northwestern mountains, a place later known as the Forge of the Gods.

Valakas’ presence transformed the region. Rivers of magma appeared beneath the mountains, altering the local climate and attracting fire-adapted creatures. He even created several monsters himself, including the first Lavasaur, known as Lavasaur Alpha.

Although Valakas fiercely defended his territory, he avoided direct conflict with humans out of fear of Gran Kain, the creator of mankind. To guard his lair, he created powerful lava hounds and appointed the Hounds of Fenril—Kerin, Freki, Uruz, and Kinaz—as his guardians. Before entering a centuries-long slumber, he placed Ixion, Wings of Flame, at the entrance to the Hall of Flames to prevent intruders from disturbing his rest.

Antharas and the Birth of Dragon Valley

The Earth Dragon Antharas, severely wounded during the war, landed in the region that would later become Giran. He disappeared into a remote mountain valley where dragon-like creatures gradually gathered.

Over time, this area became known as Dragon Valley, home to drakes, wyrms, and other descendants of dragonkind. Antharas would later retreat even deeper underground, where he remained hidden for centuries.

Meanwhile, the Demon King Malruk sent the witch Sekina to Dragon Valley. Bound by a contract with Antharas, she became responsible for summoning demons into the region and played an important role in the valley’s dark history.

Fafurion’s Hidden Domain

The Water Dragon Fafurion journeyed south and established his lair on a secluded island protected by powerful water and ice magic. He summoned dragons and monsters to defend the area and appointed Cyrax as guardian of his chambers.

Early development concepts for Lineage 2 suggest that Fafurion’s Nest was originally planned as a large high-level zone featuring multiple islands, castles, alligators, and a dedicated dungeon. Many clues in the game’s lore point to Lake Innadril as the location of Fafurion’s hidden domain.

Eva’s Fear and the Great Flood

Following Shilen’s exile, Eva became the new Goddess of Water. Unlike her predecessor, Eva was timid and insecure. Overwhelmed by her responsibilities, she hid in a vast underwater cave and abandoned her duties.

Without guidance, the Water Spirits lost control of the world’s waterways. Water accumulated in some regions while disappearing entirely from others. Swamps formed where there had once been fertile lands, deserts emerged where rivers had flowed, and relentless rainfall flooded entire continents.

Only mountain peaks remained above the rising waters. Ancient settlements disappeared beneath the sea, and civilization descended into chaos.

The Giants, desperate for salvation, prayed to the gods. Einhasad and Gran Kain eventually located Eva with the help of Argos, the thousand-eyed demigod. After being confronted by the gods, Eva finally accepted her responsibilities, bringing an end to the cataclysm.

However, the world could never fully recover from the destruction.

The Tragedy of the Elroki

The Primordial Isle suffered one of the greatest tragedies following Shilen’s departure.

The Elroki tribe had long relied on Shilen’s power to control the island’s dinosaurs. When her influence disappeared, the dinosaurs broke free from control and began devastating the island.

The Elroki were driven from their ancestral lands and pushed back to the Primeval Plains. Their once-great civilization declined, and future generations forgot their history, their homeland, and even the purpose of the ancient Kaimu stone pillars that preserved their past.

Yet despite everything, the Elroki never stopped honoring Shilen as their creator.

The Struggle for Innadril

Innadril became one of the most contested regions in the post-war world.

After becoming Goddess of Water, Eva constructed a magnificent underwater palace beneath Lake Innadril. This palace, later known as Eva’s Garden, became the center of her power.

Not everyone accepted her rule.

Many servants and followers of Shilen viewed Eva as an impostor. Fafurion openly challenged her authority and sent messengers demanding the return of what they considered Shilen’s rightful territory.

Monsters born from Shilen’s suffering gathered throughout Innadril, preaching her eventual return. Fafurion’s followers launched an invasion of Eva’s Garden, capturing its outer sections before being stopped by Eva’s guardian, Millenu.

The conflict spread across the region as local tribes, lizardmen, and crocodilian races became entangled in the struggle between the followers of Eva and Fafurion.

The Demon Kadesh

Another legacy of Shilen’s power emerged in central Aden.

Kadesh, a monstrous serpent demon born from Shilen’s influence, devastated entire regions with poison and destruction. His insatiable hunger allowed him to grow stronger with every creature he consumed.

The gods feared Kadesh because ordinary weapons could not kill him. To stop the demon, they taught the Elves how to create the Crescent Bow, a sacred weapon capable of destroying beings from beyond the mortal world.

Armed with this divine weapon, the Elves eventually defeated Kadesh, though legends foretold that the world would encounter him again in the future.

The Sacrifice of the First Guardian

Perhaps the most heartbreaking consequence of the Great Flood was the suffering of the Elves.

The Mother Tree, source of life for all Elven people, began to die after the waters of life became corrupted. As hope faded, the first Guardian of the Tree made the ultimate sacrifice.

She merged her soul with the dying Mother Tree, giving her life so that the tree could survive.

Her sacrifice restored the Mother Tree and ensured the survival of the Elven race. Even today, legends say her spirit can still be seen within the tree’s branches.

The Elves never forgot her devotion, and her story remains one of the greatest acts of selflessness in the history of Lineage 2.

A Changed World

The War of the Gods, the Great Flood, and the destruction that followed permanently altered the world.

Faith in the gods weakened as mortals witnessed the catastrophic consequences of divine conflict. The Giants, once devoted servants of the gods, began searching for knowledge and power through their own efforts rather than relying solely on worship.

This shift marked the beginning of the greatest civilization ever to appear on the continent—a civilization whose rise and eventual fall would shape the future of Lineage 2.

The story of that civilization is the next chapter in the world’s history.
