While Lineage 2 is best known for its PvP, clan wars, political intrigue, and epic battles, its world is also filled with unforgettable stories of love, sacrifice, betrayal, and loss. Hidden throughout the game's quests, NPC dialogues, and historical lore are romances that often end in tragedy.

Here are ten of the most heartbreaking love stories that shaped the history of Aden and Elmoreden.

1. Harnak and Bellis

During the Age of the Giants, King Harnak married Bellis, renowned as the most beautiful woman among his people. His love eventually became obsession, and his overwhelming jealousy convinced him that no one else should ever see her beauty.

Harnak imprisoned Bellis within a great labyrinth. However, the God of Chaos, Gran Kain, discovered her and seduced her. Consumed by rage, Harnak killed Bellis himself.

Tormented by guilt, the king isolated himself inside an underground palace, where he descended into madness. According to later lore, the demon Malruk offered him a bargain: revive Shilen and take revenge on Gran Kain, and Bellis would be returned from the underworld. Harnak spent the rest of his life pursuing this impossible hope, dying alone within his palace.

2. Kraven and His Lost Beloved

After the devastating war between humans and elves, the once-beautiful forest became the Sea of Spores. The arachne Orfen awoke to witness the destruction and descended into madness, slaughtering anyone who entered her domain.

During one expedition into the Sea of Spores, the knight Kraven and his beloved were ambushed by Orfen. Kraven was the only survivor.

Unable to accept her death, he sought immortality so he could continue hunting Orfen forever, wandering the cursed swamp in search of revenge.

3. Kiruna and Kelhas

During the war against Beleth, the orc leader Kiruna fell in love with the human paladin Kelhas. Despite the differences between their races, they planned to marry once the war ended.

Victory seemed close when Kelhas was killed by Beleth's forces.

Heartbroken, Kiruna returned to battle and faced the terrifying Death Knight Mordredus alone after the allied army fled in fear. She defeated him in one of the war's greatest victories but suffered fatal wounds.

Refusing treatment, Kiruna chose to be buried beside Kelhas, ensuring they would remain together in death.

4. Lilith and Theon

Elf spellcaster Lilith and her beloved Theon vowed to help humanity become wise practitioners of magic after the defeat of Beleth.

During the final battle, Lilith was gravely wounded. When she finally awoke months later, she learned that Theon had supposedly died fighting demons.

Believing their promise remained unfinished, Lilith spent the next thousand years waiting for him at the Temple of Einhasad on Talking Island.

By the time players uncover the truth, Theon had survived the original battle but died only a few years before their arrival, leaving the lovers forever separated.

5. Muska and Fatima

The feared pirate Zaken ruled the southern seas, and his loyal boatswain Muska served him faithfully until he fell in love with a woman named Fatima.

Blinded by love, Muska betrayed Zaken, stole his captain's treasure, and hid it on Alligator Island.

Fatima never loved him. She poisoned Muska after obtaining the treasure map, hoping to claim the fortune for herself. Unfortunately for her, Muska had encrypted the map using pirate codes that only fellow pirates could understand.

The treasure disappeared forever, leaving betrayal to consume everyone involved.

6. Aria and Mitrael

After the Dark Elves' defeat, their leader Mitrael was sealed away, leaving his people weakened and scattered.

His devoted lover, Aria Firstmatter, spent centuries searching for a way to free him. She ignored the warnings of the Dark Elf elders, gathered powerful relics, awakened Baium, and survived countless assassination attempts.

Despite risking everything, Aria never succeeded in breaking Mitrael's seal. Her centuries of unwavering devotion ended without reward.

7. Princess Molrang

Princess Molrang, daughter of King Raul, was admired throughout the kingdom for her beauty.

The powerful mage Vijay loved her, but she rejected his advances. Enraged, he cursed her, transforming the princess into a giant frog. Her loyal knight Dugan was transformed into a monstrous bear, and together they became unwilling servants of dark magic, attacking innocent travelers.

8. Elvina and Sein Hunter

Unlike many elves, Elvina lived peacefully among humans in Innadril.

After rescuing a young boy named Sein Hunter, she eventually fell in love with him as he grew older. Their relationship violated ancient elven traditions, and Elvina was punished with a magical sleep lasting one hundred years.

When she finally awoke, Sein had long since died. Instead of reuniting with her beloved, she met only his grandson before quietly leaving Innadril forever.

9. Irene and Castien

During the bloody conflict between Light and Dark Elves, the warrior Rayen sacrificed himself so others could escape the demonic invasion of the Elven Fortress.

His wife, the minstrel Irene, lost the ability to sing after his death.

Over time, another elf named Castien developed feelings for Irene but considered them a betrayal of his fallen friend. Consumed by guilt, he left on a dangerous mission to the Sea of Spores.

Unable to ignore her own feelings any longer, Irene eventually set out to search for him, hoping fate would grant them another chance.

10. Ceriel and Barz

Ceriel was one of the greatest elven archers ever known. During her travels, she met Bartz Ramshart and fell deeply in love with the young warrior.

When Bartz died fighting the Revolutionary Army of Dusk, Ceriel abandoned both her homeland and her bow.

She chose instead to become a wandering minstrel, singing sorrowful songs in memory of the man she could never forget.

Love in a World of Endless War

Although Lineage 2 is remembered primarily for sieges, raids, and PvP, its lore tells another story—one where love often becomes another casualty of war.

These tales of loyalty, sacrifice, obsession, and heartbreak reveal a more emotional side of the game's universe. Whether hidden in quests, NPC dialogue, or ancient legends, they continue to enrich the world of Aden and remind players that even in an age of endless conflict, the greatest battles are sometimes fought within the heart.
