At the height of their civilization, the giants achieved unparalleled scientific and magical advancement. Their ambition drove them to construct monumental megaprojects that reshaped the world itself. Among their greatest achievements were a celestial railway leading toward the palace of the gods and the distant ocean of stars, as well as an enormous weather-control laboratory built near the crater of a powerful meteorite in what is now Schuttgart.
The Meteorite Crater and the Weather Laboratory
The meteorite that struck the northern lands contained valuable nonbulite ores, prompting the giants to establish extensive mining operations throughout the crater. South of the excavation site, they built a massive meteorological laboratory with three towering structures dedicated to climate manipulation.
Under the leadership of the giant scientist Pavel, countless golems worked throughout the mines, drilling through rock and extracting valuable minerals. To coordinate these operations, Pavel created the administrator golem Atlanta. She supervised the worker golems, protected the laboratory, and oversaw the mining of Star Stones, which powered an advanced supercomputer known as the Weather Master.
To assist with experiments involving rare magical materials, Pavel also created another administrator golem named Wendy. Unlike most giants, Pavel treated both Atlanta and Wendy as trusted companions rather than simple machines.
The Weather Master and Project Eternal Spring
The Weather Master combined powerful magical elements, including Pa'agrio Fire, Shilen Water, a fragment of life, and the Crystal of Light. By balancing these forces, the giants sought to reshape the natural climate itself.
According to the C5 questline, Pavel conducted several climate experiments under codenames such as:

His greatest achievement was Project No. 45: Eternal Spring.
The goal of the project was ambitious—to transform the surrounding region into a permanent spring environment.
The Weather Master temporarily elevated the sun-like Pa'agrio Fire to generate immense heat and energy. To prevent the land from becoming an endless desert, magical barriers created through Shilen Water stabilized the environment while the Weather Master carefully regulated the temperature. The result was an artificial spring landscape filled with blooming flowers surrounding the laboratory.
Pavel often walked through these fields alongside Atlanta and Wendy, regarding them as loyal friends instead of tools.
The Giants' Growing Arrogance
While Pavel displayed compassion toward his creations, most giants had become increasingly arrogant.
Although they possessed incredible wisdom and technological superiority, they viewed the races they created merely as disposable servants for achieving their own ambitions.
Among these races, the Kel Mahums possessed exceptional intelligence. Over time, they realized they were being exploited rather than respected. Their population continued to grow, strengthening their society and fueling resentment against their creators until they eventually rose in rebellion.
The Full Moon Disease
During the uprising, an accident inside one of the giants' laboratories released spores carrying the Full Moon Disease, an infection capable of transforming living beings into werewolf-like creatures.
The spores spread into nearby livestock, producing entirely new lifeforms through unintended mutations.
Among the creatures born from this catastrophe were the Minotaurs—massive beings with reddish-brown skin and the heads of bulls. Since relatively few were created, their numbers remained small, but their extraordinarily long lifespans allowed some to survive into the present era of Lineage II.
The most famous among them is the Minotaur warrior Golconda.
The Collapse of Project Eternal Spring
While the rebellion spread across Gracia, an even greater disaster unfolded inside Pavel's laboratory.
Project Eternal Spring initially appeared to be a remarkable success. Spring weather had been artificially established across the surrounding region.
However, a failure in one of the laboratory's safety systems triggered a catastrophic explosion within the northern wing.
Without the energy supplied by Pa'agrio Fire:
Guardian golems lost their magical force fields.
Mining golems lost communication and ceased functioning.
Atlanta and Wendy entered a dormant state that lasted for thousands of years.
During the C5 questline, Wendy recalls several legendary achievements of giant civilization, including Arviter's towering spire, Mimir's life-altering elixir, and Pavel's research into changing the skies. Interestingly, players would not actually witness Arviter's Spire until the Kamael update.
The explosion completely transformed the surrounding region, plunging the once-flourishing landscape into an endless frozen wilderness.
The Kel Mahum Rebellion
At the same time, the Kel Mahum rebellion continued spreading throughout Gracia.
More chimeric races joined the uprising, with the silver-furred Algate tribe emerging as one of its primary leaders.
Despite growing resistance, the giants remained determined to maintain complete domination.
Led by Emperor Helios, they showed little regard for the lives of either the races they had created or even their fellow giants. Their pursuit of absolute power pushed them to develop increasingly dangerous technologies.
Weapons, Armor, and the Awakening Ceremony
The giants enhanced their military strength through powerful magical engineering.
Special scrolls allowed them to modify weapons and armor beyond conventional limits. Their greatest defensive creation became the legendary Ixion Armor, a fully enclosed suit powered by the life energy of its wearer.
They also perfected combat techniques through specially developed codes, pushing their warriors to extraordinary levels of strength.
Still unsatisfied, the giants pursued an even greater source of power through a ritual known as Awakening.
Originally conceived as an inheritance ceremony, Awakening allowed future generations to inherit the strength of ancient heroes.
Long ago, the giants preserved heroic souls within the Book of Light. Later generations attempted to absorb these souls by using Hell Records recovered from statues of the ancient giants.
Most who attempted the ritual failed, unable to withstand the overwhelming spiritual power, and perished during the process. Only a handful successfully awakened the strength of the ancient heroes within themselves.
The Rebellion Is Crushed
Despite the determination of the rebel forces, the overwhelming military superiority of the giants proved impossible to overcome.
The Kel Mahums and their allies suffered a devastating defeat, and the rebellion was brutally suppressed.
Later lore introduced in Lineage II Essence revealed that certain Light Elves also participated in the uprising. After their defeat, they sealed themselves together with their village beneath the roots of the Tree of Life, remaining hidden from the outside world.
Although many chimeric races faced near extinction, later events would ultimately prevent their complete destruction.
Shilen's Intervention
As the giants prepared for war against the gods, the goddess Shilen secretly intervened.
According to lore introduced in the Goddess of Destruction update, she persuaded Hermuncus to steal a portion of Einhasad's divine power. He successfully carried out the theft, provoking Einhasad's fury.
The enraged goddess exposed the giants' secret military preparations, including their hidden laboratory where the Kamael were being created.
This revelation marked a turning point in the history of the giants, setting the stage for the coming conflict between the giants and the gods—a war that would forever change the world of Lineage II.
