This chapter of the Lineage II storyline explores one of the most mysterious periods in the world's history—the Age of Gods and Giants. It reveals the forgotten origins of Primeval Isle, the legendary Elroki warriors, and a version of Shilen that differs greatly from the image preserved by later religious doctrine.

The Age of Gods and Giants

After the creation of the gods and the assignment of authority over the elemental worlds, the Age of Gods began. During this era, the gods ruled over every aspect of existence, and nothing remained beyond their knowledge or influence.

The races created by the gods worshipped their creators and served the Giants, who had been granted authority over the material world. The Giants built a powerful civilization and became the most advanced beings in history. They respected the gods deeply and constructed numerous temples in their honor.

Although these temples have long vanished, ancient records and developer interviews suggest that the continent of Gracia once held many relics of Giant civilization. Early descriptions of the region even referred to it as a mysterious land filled with ancient ruins.

Life Before Death Existed

According to ancient legends, life during the Age of Giants was unlike anything that followed. While the world was not perfect, it was far more peaceful than later ages.

The gods regularly interacted with the Giants, and the fear of death did not exist. Those who suffered fatal injuries were granted new bodies and continued their lives. Individuals favored by the gods ascended to the heavens, while those who earned divine wrath simply ceased to exist.

The gods Incarna and Gran Kain shared sacred Songs of Creation with the Giants, teaching them how to manipulate light, darkness, and the forces of the world itself.

Children of Gods and Giants

The relationship between gods and Giants extended beyond simple worship.

One Giant woman bore a son to Sayha, the God of Wind. Their child, Ramund, inherited divine abilities that allowed him to leap farther and higher than any other creature, making him capable of traveling across the world with incredible speed.

Another Giant woman gave birth to Argos, the son of Gran Kain. Known later as the Giant of a Thousand Eyes, Argos possessed the ability to observe everything happening throughout the world.

Over time, witnessing both the beauty and cruelty of existence caused a split within his personality. One side loved life, art, loyalty, and courage, while the other grew obsessed with hatred, war, betrayal, and suffering. This internal conflict would define his legacy for centuries.

Giants, Orcs, and the Threat of Dinosaurs

Despite their advanced civilization, the Giants were not free from conflict. The Orcs served as their military force and were equipped with specially crafted weapons and armor designed to maximize their strength.

Yet even the combined power of the Giants and Orc armies could not fully protect the world from its greatest threat—dinosaurs.

These primitive creatures were born during Genesis and possessed power comparable to that of the Giants themselves. Their immense strength made them a danger to all living races.

Many believe the Giants united the races and built powerful armies specifically to defend the world from these creatures.

Shilen, Protector of the Dinosaurs

Contrary to later depictions, Shilen was once known as a wise, courageous, and compassionate goddess.

While the other gods sought to eliminate the dinosaurs, Shilen chose to protect them. She believed even these terrifying and primitive creatures deserved a place in the world.

To safeguard them, she moved the dinosaurs to a remote island separated from the rest of civilization. This place would later become known as Primeval Isle.

The Rise of the Elroki

Deep within the island, Shilen blessed a primitive race with sacred water. Through this divine gift, they were transformed into the Elroki—a proud warrior people tasked with guarding the dinosaurs forever.

To aid them, Shilen created magical axes known as Gaspar weapons. These sacred tools allowed their wielders to control dinosaurs through a spiritual connection. The stronger the bond between warrior and weapon, the greater the power it possessed.

The Elroki learned to coexist with the dinosaurs and lived in harmony under Shilen's protection. With assistance from other gods, Primeval Isle became a paradise and the golden age of the Elroki began.

The Rebellion of Sailren

Peace did not last forever.

At some point, Shilen ordered the dinosaurs to relocate deeper into the island's Lost Nest. During the migration, several creatures resisted. The most dangerous among them was Sailren, a powerful beast capable of influencing and controlling the minds of others.

A devastating battle followed.

The Elroki and their dinosaur allies fought desperately, but the conflict nearly destroyed them. Countless warriors fell, and the strongest Elroki champion called upon the power of his Gaspar weapon to seek divine aid.

As the battle reached its final moments, the surviving warriors sang the sacred Warrior's Song—a tradition reserved for moments of both triumph and tragedy.

The Elroki sacrificed themselves, and their Gaspar weapons shattered. Fragments of the weapons embedded themselves into the hides of the dinosaurs, sealing Sailren within the depths of the Lost Nest.

The price of victory was immense, but the world was saved.

The Statues and the Prophecy

To ensure Sailren would never escape, Shilen created living stone statues and granted them the power of sealing. These guardians were ordered to maintain the prison indefinitely.

She also delivered a prophecy to the surviving Elroki:

One day, when the ancient evil awakens again, a stranger carrying a Gaspar weapon will arrive and restore balance to the island.

Only such a warrior would be capable of passing the barriers protecting Sailren's prison.

The Living Columns of Memory

Fearing that the island's history would one day be forgotten, Shilen created several living stone columns capable of preserving knowledge.

Three survived into modern times:

  • Ukukaimu – The Eyes Watching the Earth.

  • Pulukaimu – The Eyes Watching the Sea.

  • Chutakaimu – The Eyes Watching the Sky.

Each column could only communicate with one other column, ensuring that no single entity possessed all knowledge. Together, they preserved fragments of Primeval Isle's history for future generations.

Legacy of Primeval Isle

The surviving Elroki continued guarding the Lost Nest, which became both a sacred site and the spiritual center of their people. Here they honored fallen warriors, conducted rituals, and trained future generations.

Primeval Isle remained under Shilen's protection, and the Elroki faithfully upheld their ancient oath.

Ironically, Shilen's greatest act of heroism became the beginning of her downfall. By saving the world from the dinosaur threat and earning the admiration of many, she reached the height of her influence among the gods.

That popularity would soon spark events that would alter the fate of the Elroki, Shilen herself, and ultimately the entire world of Lineage II.
