For countless Lineage 2 players, Talking Island is simply the place where every new adventure begins. Most rush through its quests to reach higher levels, rarely stopping to consider the history behind its villages, ruins, and characters. Yet this small island plays a surprisingly important role in the lore of Elmoreden and serves as the foundation of every human hero's story.

This article explores the history of Talking Island, its educational institutions, the major questlines that unfold there, and the events that prepare players for their journey across the continent.

The Origins of Talking Island

Long before the events of Lineage 2, during the wars between the Elves and Orcs, Talking Island served as a secret military outpost. The Elves established hidden schools where humans were taught the art of magic, hoping to strengthen their alliance against the Orc armies.

Evidence of this ancient era still survives across the island:

  • The Victory Monument, commemorating the alliance between Humans and Elves.

  • The Elven Ruins, once a magical academy where human mages trained under elven masters.

When conflict later erupted between Humans and Elves, the academy was abandoned. The surviving Elves left the island and returned to their forests, leaving the settlement to become a center of human civilization.

The Village of Talking Island

The island eventually transformed into a peaceful training ground where young adventurers begin their lives as warriors or mages.

The central village remains the heart of the region, attracting aspiring soldiers and spellcasters from across the kingdom.

Cedric's Military Academy

Human fighters begin their journey as graduates of Cedric's Academy.

The school was founded by the legendary paladin Cedric Atebalt, one of King Raul's most trusted commanders. After the king's death, Cedric dedicated his life to training honorable knights to protect the kingdom.

By the time players arrive, Cedric has retired due to poor health and resides in Aden. Leadership of the academy has passed to his nephew, Sir Roien, who continues the school's traditions.

Einhovant's School of Magic

Human mystics begin their adventure at Einhovant's School of Magic.

The academy was founded by mages who rejected the strict elitism of the Ivory Tower. Under the guidance of the mysterious wizard Einhovant, they created an independent institution where talented students could study magic regardless of wealth or social status.

The school quickly became a refuge for gifted young magicians.

The Ivory Tower repeatedly attempted to eliminate the academy, but every effort failed because of an unknown force protecting it.

Today, the school is directed by Magister Gallint, one of Hardin's former students. Curiously, Gallint is the only person who claims to have ever met Einhovant, causing many to question whether the legendary wizard truly exists.

The Two Main Storylines of Talking Island

Most quests on Talking Island revolve around two major events that have recently changed life on the island.

Refugees After the Gracia War

Following the devastating war with Gracia, many refugees fled to Talking Island seeking safety.

Governor Colin Windawood orders the northern wilderness cleared of monsters so these displaced families can establish new homes and rebuild their lives.

Many early combat quests directly support this settlement effort.

The Mysterious Storm

Only days before the player's arrival, a violent and unexplained storm struck the island.

The disaster left destruction throughout the region:

  • The temple roof was heavily damaged.

  • Cedric's Academy suffered structural damage.

  • Merchant ships sailing toward Giran were wrecked offshore.

  • Gallint's magical barrier protecting the School of Magic collapsed.

With the barrier destroyed, magical Mirror Spirits escaped into the surrounding area. Players help Gallint restore the barrier by hunting down these wandering spirits.

Ancient Beliefs and the Storm

Not everyone believes the storm was a natural disaster.

Some island residents claim the catastrophe occurred because people abandoned the old traditions of offering gifts to Shilen, whom they believe rules the seas, after the spread of Einhasad's religion.

The lighthouse keeper Roxxy and dock manager Felix continue the ancient ritual each year. However, the newly appointed priest refuses to support the ceremony, creating tension between old beliefs and the new faith.

Whether these forgotten rituals truly influence the sea remains one of the island's lingering mysteries.

Smuggling and the Shipwreck

The storm also exposed another secret.

A smuggler reveals that one of the wrecked ships carried illegal shipments of adamantite ore, secretly imported from Gracia by a dwarven warehouse worker.

This subplot hints at corruption, underground trade, and the growing political instability affecting the kingdom.

The Return of Evil

One of the island's darkest stories involves High Priest Biotin, who begins suffering terrifying nightmares shortly after the storm.

Investigating these visions leads players into the Elven Ruins, where they confront the demon Nerkas.

During the battle, Nerkas praises Beleth, suggesting that the legendary dark sorcerer may soon return.

Biotin believes the demon's appearance is not an isolated incident but a warning of a much greater threat waiting beyond the island.

This storyline quietly introduces one of Lineage 2's most important future villains while setting the stage for larger conflicts later in the game's lore.

Leaving Talking Island

Once adventurers complete their training and uncover the island's mysteries, they depart for the mainland.

Although Talking Island is only the first step in the world of Lineage 2, its quests establish the political tensions, religious conflicts, ancient history, and supernatural dangers that shape the entire world of Elmoreden.

Far more than a beginner zone, Talking Island serves as the narrative starting point for every human adventurer and introduces many of the themes that continue throughout the game's story.
